Cellar conversions
Cellar conversions
Below-ground space assessed honestly before finishes are specified, with moisture, ventilation, access and intended use considered together.
The client problem
What brings clients to us
Cellars can appear to offer easy extra space, but damp, low ceilings, inadequate ventilation, poor access and limited escape routes can make an unsuitable proposal expensive. The first need is a realistic assessment rather than a decorative quotation.
How Dartside approaches it
Dartside begins with the existing construction and signs of moisture. The proposed use is then considered against headroom, drainage, ventilation, fire safety and access. Specialist waterproofing or structural advice is coordinated where the building requires it.

The process
What the work normally involves
Stage 1
Initial enquiry and photographs of the space
Stage 2
Site inspection, including visible moisture and access conditions
Stage 3
Specialist design or investigation where required
Stage 4
Defined scope covering preparation, protection, services and finishes
Stage 5
Sequenced construction with hidden conditions reported promptly
Stage 6
Completion inspection and handover of relevant information
A cellar conversion may require Building Regulations approval, structural design, waterproofing design and planning or listed-building consent. Appropriate specialists must provide those services where required.
Relevant experience
Practical knowledge behind the work
Dartside brings long practical experience of older buildings, defect investigation, timber repairs and coordinating specialist trades rather than treating below-ground work as a simple room refurbishment.
Area covered
Where we undertake this work
Cellar projects are considered individually in Dartmouth, the South Hams and selected areas of South Devon, with viability depending on the property and proposed use.
